Waterbury HEALTH -- a local network anchored by 357-bed Waterbury Hospital that offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient healthcare services as well as primary and multispecialty physician services and home health care -- has acquired a minority ownership interest in Waterbury Surgery Center, a free-standing multispecialty facility providing high-quality ambulatory surgical services. Waterbury HEALTH began managing the facility Dec. 31, 2020.
“We are excited to join with the physician owners of Waterbury Surgery Center who have created a strong, well-run multispecialty facility serving Waterbury and surrounding communities,” said Waterbury HEALTH President and CEO Lester P. Schindel. “This investment allows Waterbury HEALTH to expand community access to outpatient surgical services and is a key component of our population health strategy. With continuing medical and technological advancement, more and more surgeries can safely be done in outpatient surgery centers resulting in improved clinical outcomes and higher patient satisfaction at a lower cost.”
“We are pleased to welcome Waterbury HEALTH as our partner, and we look forward to working together to expand access to care in our community,” said Dr. Robert Leventhal, Waterbury Surgery Center Medical Director.
