Arrest Made in Fatal Pedestrian Hit and Run

Waterbury Police investigated a hit and run accident that occurred at the above location on August 03, 2019 at about 2:20 am. This accident took place when a pedestrian crossing the street was hit by a vehicle traveling north on North Main Street. The victim, identified as Henry Pearson (DOB 7/9/50) from Waterbury, was transported to St. Mary’s hospital with life-threatening head injuries. The vehicle that struck Pearson did not stop and fled the area.

Wheeler Clinic Opens New Community Health Center in Waterbury

Saint Mary’s Hospital, a Regional Health Ministry of Trinity Health Of New England, has received approval from the State Office of Health Strategy to transition its outpatient behavioral health clinic to Wheeler Clinic, which is establishing a new Family Health & Wellness Center in Waterbury.  The transition is expected to be complete by September 2019.

New Student Registration at NVCC

Students interested in attending Naugatuck Valley Community College for the fall semester can complete all the registration steps in one day by attending one of several walk-in New Student Registration Sessions offered at the College’s Waterbury and Danbury campus in August. New Student Registration Sessions make starting college easy by completing all of the steps in the enrollment process in one day. All hands are on deck to help students navigate through the admissions, registration, and payment processes.

Palace Theater's "2nd Act" has 2nd Season


The presenters have been selected for the upcoming second season of 2ND ACT,  the Palace Theater’s acclaimed speaker’s series that features stories by  people post age 50, who are doing some extraordinary things after mid-life. Among them is Pat Addiss, a Broadway producer based in New York who will kick the series off on September 17 with her presentation, Necessity is the Mother of Reinvention and Lisa Lampanelli, formerly known for her acerbic comedic style, who is now a life coach.  She’ll be presenting her new show Losin’ It on the main stage of the theater on November 16.

Emergency Need for Blood Donors ~ American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is facing an emergency need for blood donors and is urging eligible donors of all types to give now and help avoid delays in lifesaving medical care for patients this summer. Blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in. More donations are needed now to help replenish the blood supply.

Waterbury Pride NAACP Youth Council Gets National Award

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Youth & College Division, the nation’s foremost civil rights organization, named the Waterbury Pride NAACP Youth Council as the “Youth Council of the Year, 2019” and Advisor Arlanda Brantley the “Clara Luper Youth Advisor of the Year” at the 110th Annual NAACP National Convention in Detroit, MI last week.

NVCC President Elected NECHE Commissioner

The New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) is the regional accreditation agency for colleges and universities in the six New England states, three institutions in Greece, three in Switzerland, two in Lebanon, and one in Bulgaria, Bermuda, and Morocco, respectively. The Commission consists of faculty and administrators from affiliated institutions and public members.
