Waterbury Pride NAACP Youth Council Gets National Award

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Youth & College Division, the nation’s foremost civil rights organization, named the Waterbury Pride NAACP Youth Council as the “Youth Council of the Year, 2019” and Advisor Arlanda Brantley the “Clara Luper Youth Advisor of the Year” at the 110th Annual NAACP National Convention in Detroit, MI last week. 

Mattatuck Museum ~ Programs, Events & More

Create a hand-held puppet with a Mattatuck Museum’s teaching artist and enjoy the stories of The Dragon King, Cinderella, and Hansel & Gretel, a spectacular marionette show by Tanglewood Marionettes (presented by Arts for Learning). NVCC President Elected NECHE Commissioner

The New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) is the regional accreditation agency for colleges and universities in the six New England states, three institutions in Greece, three in Switzerland, two in Lebanon, and one in Bulgaria, Bermuda, and Morocco, respectively. The Commission consists of faculty and administrators from affiliated institutions and public members.

Post University's Inaugural Class of Malcolm Baldrige Scholars

A valedictorian who was born in Italy, a Hurricane Michael survivor who took online classes from a hotel room when she lost her home, and a German transplant pursuing a Master of Business Administration. What do they each have in common?  They will all be recognized on May 9th as the inaugural class of Baldrige Scholars, representing the top 5% of graduates from Post University’s Malcolm Baldrige School of Business, named in honor of the late former U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Waterbury native.

Palace Theater Tour June 1st

The Palace Theater in Waterbury hosts monthly tours and the next one is Saturday June 1, from 11:00 am – 12:30pm.  If you’ve ever wondered what’s behind the scenes of a theater or what the symbolism of a ghost light is, then this tour will answer those questions and more, as well-versed tour guides take you through almost one hundred years of the theater’s history.  Get an insider’s view and learn about the magic behind the curtain along with the history and lore of this much-loved entertainment venue and community gathering place.  Admission to the tour is $5.00 per person and can be purchased online, by phone at 203-346-2000, or in person at the Box Office, 100 East Main St. in Waterbury. Groups of ten or more are asked to contact the Box Office in advance to register their group.

Acts 4 Ministry to Present Awards at “Inspiration” Event

During Acts 4 Ministry’s annual fundraising reception, “Inspiration: Inspiring acts of love”, May 15th at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, the global Osterman Community Foundation (OCF) in Cheshire will be honored as a community partner, and Dave and Ellen Rogers of Cheshire will be honored as volunteer partners.

The non-denominational non-profit Acts 4 Ministry will honor the Osterman Community Foundation (OCF) of Cheshire as a community partner, and David and Ellen Rogers of Cheshire as volunteer partners during their annual "Inspiration: Inspiring acts of love" fundraiser on Wednesday, May 15, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theater in Waterbury. The fundraiser will feature the acclaimed classic folk, rock, and pop duo, The Kennedys.

AmeriCorps Grant for Community Health Center's Drug Abuse Programs

Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC) today announced it has been awarded $243,072 in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency responsible for AmeriCorps and other national service programs. This award will leverage an additional $514,765 from the private sector, foundations, and other sources, in accordance with the unique AmeriCorps model.
