Wheeler’s Family Health & Wellness Center at 855 Lakewood Road, Waterbury, will offer drive-through and walk-up COVID-19 virus testing for Wheeler patients and the general public, weather permitting, starting on August 31, 2020, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 am to 12 noon. No doctor’s note or previous visit is needed for this type of testing, and the public is welcome. Symptoms are not required for testing.
“We are pleased to offer this service to residents of Waterbury and surrounding communities,” said Sabrina Trocchi, PhD, MPA, president and chief executive officer, Wheeler. “During this crisis, it’s important for individuals to have access to testing resources so that they know their status and can protect and maintain their own health, as well as the health and safety of their loved ones.”
Individuals should bring an insurance card and/or form of identification, if they have it. Services are provided in English and Spanish. All participants will receive a follow-up phone call from Wheeler in 3-5 days to review test results.

As part of its broad range of integrated care services, and commitment to promoting the overall health and well-being of individuals and families, Wheeler’s Waterbury community health center offers free backpacks filled with school supplies, including face masks and hand sanitizer, for every child receiving a back-to-school physical, including immunizations, while supplies last. In addition, through an expanded partnership with West Granby-based Holcomb Farm, fresh produce is available at no cost to Wheeler patients during late summer and fall at the 855 Lakewood Road, Waterbury location on Wednesdays from 1 – 4 p.m. This distribution is made possible through a $12,000 commitment from Wheeler through private donations and a $12,000 matching gift from The Friends of Holcomb Farm through their Fresh Access Program.
