Summary

On April 22, 2020 at 10:27 p.m., the Waterbury Police were dispatched to the area of 2457 East Main Street for reported motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles.

The investigation determined that a 2010 BMW was traveling west on East Main Street, when the operator failed to maintain the proper lane of travel, crossed over into the opposite lane of travel and struck a 2007 Honda Accord traveling in the opposite direction.

Due to the seriousness of this motor vehicle accident, the Crash Reconstruction Unit of the Traffic Services Unit conducted this investigation with the assistance of detectives and the Crime Scene Unit of the Forensic Division.

The operator of the BMW, identified as Jamall Smith (DOB 9/7/93) of Waterbury, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. There were no passengers in the BMW.

The operator of the Honda, identified as Jada Manning (DOB 10/18/99) of Waterbury, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious but not life threatening injuries. There was one passenger in the Honda.

The passenger of the Honda, Dominique Dalessio (10/29/99) of Bethlehem, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious life threatening injuries.

Dalessio succumb to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on April 28, 2020.

A Waterbury Police Officer of the Accident Reconstruction Unit applied for and was granted an arrest warrant for Jamall Smith for the following charges:

  • Assault 2nd Degree with a Motor Vehicle
  • Illegal Operation of Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
  • Failure to Drive in the Proper Lane
  • Manslaughter 2nd with a Motor Vehicle

There is a court set $100,000 bond on this arrest warrant.
