Waterbury Police investigated a hit and run accident that occurred at the above location on August 03, 2019 at about 2:20 am. This accident took place when a pedestrian crossing the street was hit by a vehicle traveling north on North Main Street. The victim, identified as Henry Pearson (DOB 7/9/50) from Waterbury, was transported to St. Mary’s hospital with life-threatening head injuries. The vehicle that struck Pearson did not stop and fled the area. The Traffic Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Unit responded to investigate. Mr. Pearson died as a result of injuries sustained in this accident.

On August 5, 2019, the police developed information and located the vehicle involved in this accident. This vehicle was located under a tarp with no plates on it behind a residence on Willow Street in Waterbury. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle operator, Dominique Caraway (DOB August 18, 1992) from 196 North Main Street, Naugatuck, turned herself into the police. Caraway previously reported her vehicle stolen to the Waterbury Police on August 3, 2019 at 1:56 pm.

Investigators of the Traffic Reconstructionist Unit applied for and were granted an arrest warrant charging Dominique Caraway (DOB 8/18/1992) with the following crimes:

  • Evading Responsibility- Resulting in a Death
  • Reckless Driving
  • Tampering with Evidence
  • Falsely Reporting Theft of Motor Vehicle

Caraway was held on a $250,000 bond pending arraignment in court/ GA 4.
