354 NYC Tower Operator Jack Springer
The Railroad Museum of New England’s Speaker Series continues in May with a presentation by historian Kent Patterson, author of the book “Rails Around Westchester County.” He will give a historical and photographic overview of Westchester County’s past and current railroads, including Metro-North, New Haven Railroad, New York Central (including the Putnam Division), and J.P. Morgan’s New York Westchester & Boston Railway.
Kent Patterson is a retired Metro-North Railroad Manager, who grew up in Dobbs Ferry, New York and lives in Yorktown, New York. At Metro-North and earlier railroads, he was a tower operator, yardmaster, trainmaster, planner, and project manager. He is still active in the industry consulting and helps the Rail Passenger Association and similar rail organizations that educate the public and policy makers about the value of passenger rail.
The event will be held at Thomaston Station, 242 East Main Street, Thomaston, on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 4:00PM. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The Railroad Museum of New England is a Section 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, all volunteer, educational and historical organization that dates back to January 1968. The museum concept is more than artifacts: It is also a story of the region and the development of society around the railroad. Our home is located at the landmark Thomaston Train Station. The RMNE and its wholly owned subsidiary, the Naugatuck Railroad, operate on 19.6 miles of track from Waterbury to Torrington leased from the State of Connecticut.
