Closures of Riverside and Route 8 N Exits 30 and 32 start 8/20/18

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work associated with the Route 8/I-84 Interchange (MixMaster) rehabilitation project in Waterbury will impact local roads and Exits 30 and 32 on Route 8 northbound. Road and lane closures are required for the ongoing construction of the Route 8 northbound temporary bypass and are scheduled to start August 20, 2018.   

The project consists of the rehabilitation of numerous bridges located within the Route 8 and I-84 Interchange and was awarded to Walsh Construction Company at a cost of $152,960,945.27 on April 18, 2018 and is scheduled to be completed September 10, 2022.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Motorists are advised of the following closures and detours

  • Exit 32 Off-Ramp on Route 8 Northbound is scheduled to be closed on August 20, 2018 beginning at 7:00 a.m.
  • Exit 30 On-Ramp from Washington Street to Route 8 Northbound will be closed beginning August 23, 2018 at 7:00 a.m.
  • Riverside Street (northbound) will be closed beginning August 20, 2018 between Sunnyside Avenue and Freight Street.
  • Riverside Street (southbound) will be changed to a bi-directional road between Sunnyside Avenue and Freight Street as a result of the northbound closure in order to facilitate a traffic throughway.

DETOUR INFORMATION

Upon closure of the Exit 30 on-ramp (August 23, 2018), traffic will be detoured to Bank Street and Riverside Street.  Motorists will be able to access I-84 eastbound from Meadow Street and Route 8 northbound and I-84 westbound via Riverside Street. Signage will be posted to guide motorists through the detoured route.  

Upon closure of the Exit 32 off-ramp to northbound Riverside Street (August 20, 2018), traffic will be detoured at Exit 30 off-ramp and motorists will be guided northerly along South Leonard Street before it becomes northbound Riverside Street.  Signage will be posted to guide motorists through the detoured route.
