The Waterbury Sons and Daughters of Italy, Lodge 2878 is accepting applications for local one-time scholarships from students of Italian descent who live in and/or attend school in Waterbury.
Applications must be completed in their entirety. All completed applications must be received by the Waterbury Sons and Daughters of Italy no later than March 15, 2016. Applications are available at all Waterbury public and private school Guidance Offices. Instructions for submission are provided in the application. The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) is the largest and oldest national organization for men and women of Italian heritage in the United States. Founded in 1905 as a mutual aid society for the early Italian immigrants, today OSIA has hundreds of thousands of family members located in all fifty states and the District of Columbia, making it the leading service and advocacy organization for the nation’s estimated 26 million people of Italian descent. OSIA is also the largest Italian humanitarian organization, donating to hundreds of causes, but especially Autism and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Its missions include encouraging the study of Italian language and culture in American schools and universities; preserving Italian American traditions, culture, history and heritage; and promoting closer cultural relations between the United States and Italy.
