The Waterbury Police Department will host their Spring Citizens Police Academy, March 23rd through May 4th. This seven week program will be held on Monday evenings, from 6-8pm, in the department’s Training Division, located at 240 Bank St, across from Diorio’s restaurant.
Participants will receive training in several areas, including overviews on the Waterbury Police Department’s organizational structure and the function of the various police divisions. Participants will also tour the police department, while experiencing various hands on demonstrations. At the end of the seven week session, participants will also have the opportunity to accompany a police officer on a ride along.
Applicants must be 18 years old and be a Waterbury resident, business owner, or active in the Waterbury community. Because of the sensitive nature of police work, a background check will be completed on all applicants, which includes a criminal history check, warrant check and driver’s license status check. Applications may be picked up at the Community Relations Division, 240 Bank St. They may also be obtained by contacting Officer Andrea Carr at (203)574-6962 or by emailing acarr@wtbypd.org. All applications must be returned by March 13th at 4 p.m. Class size is restricted to first 20 participants.
