Ms. Mary Donato, daughter of Douglas and Gina Donato of Oakville, CT, has been named Valedictorian and Ms. Stephanie Amato, daughter of Alan and Kimberly Amato of Beacon Falls, CT has been named Salutatorian of the Class of 2014 at Sacred Heart High School, according to Mrs. Eileen Regan, President.

During Mary’s four years at Sacred Heart High School, she has accumulated an impressive record of achievement and involvement. She was named a National Merit Scholar Finalist, was the recipient of the 2014 Superintendent’s Summa Scholar Award, was chosen as a “Class of 2014 Super Senior”, and served as a member of the National Honor Society.  In addition to her stellar academic work, Mary’s commitment and determination are just a few of her many favorable qualities. This spring she was chosen as both the Waterbury and State of Connecticut Exchange Club Youth of the Year and now will automatically qualify for the National Exchange Club Youth of the Year.

While a student at the Heart, she has participated in the summer Freshman Orientation Program every year, has supported Habitat for Humanity projects, as well as numerous other community outreach activities through the National Honor Society.  For three years, she has worked on The Forum, SHHS’s student newspaper, where she served as Editor-in-Chief, as well as being the secretary of the Photography Club. Athletically, she has been both a member and the manager of the track team, a member of the dance team, and a member of the cheer squad.  Mary is a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church and a graduate of St. Mary Magdalen School.  In her free time she teaches at Children’s Dance Workshop.  Mary has always loved biology and will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall to begin her professional studies in the field of Molecular Biology.  Mary is the recipient of the Valedictorian Presidential Scholars Award from the University of Connecticut.


Stephanie has certainly left her mark on the Heart’s school community where she was the recipient of the 2014 Superintendent’s Summa Scholar Award, recipient of the Catholic Association of Foresters Award, recipient of the 2013 Regis College Book Award, a member of the National Honor Society, the International Club, and the Photography Club.

During her time at Sacred Heart High School, she was also a member of the cheerleading squad and volunteered numerous community service hours at both the Southmayd Home in Waterbury and the United Day School in Beacon Falls where she enjoyed helping the elderly and working with children. Stephanie attended Laurel Ledge Elementary School and is a member of St. Augustine Church. She is currently employed at Sundel & Milford Insurance Company and The Country Creamery.

Stephanie is the recipient of the Salutatorian Award and the Dean’s Award from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences where she will enter the Doctorate of Pharmacy Program in the fall.
