The 3rd Annual Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K takes place on April 27th.  Last year’s race had nearly 3,000 runners and this year’s event is limited to 3,500 entrants. “This year’s race should be our biggest yet with entries running ahead of last year’s record pace,” said Bill Costello, Race President.

The Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K Inc. is a registered 501(c) 3 non profit corporation that supports organizations that assist special needs individuals and their families.  This year’s race is expected to raise over $100,000 for a number of charities including Abilities Without Boundaries, Best Buddies CT, and the Cheshire Lions Club.

The event takes place at Cheshire High School and features a Half Marathon, 5K, Kids Fun Run and the UnitedHealthcare Healthy & Active Living Festival. The festival features dozens of exhibitors and plenty of family activities.  The Half Marathon and 5K races are fairly flat and the Half Marathon features significant stretches on the picturesque Farmington Canal Trail. The Kids Fun Run is run entirely on the Cheshire High School track.  The Half Marathon and 5K feature on course entertainment and aid stations.  After the race, all participants are invited to a post race party with great food and live music from Run for Cover.

The event would not be possible without the support of over 400 local volunteers on raceday.  A number of Cheshire High School athletic teams volunteer on race day.  The event’s title sponsor is Ion Bank. Also supporting the races are UnitedHealthcare, Quinnipiac University, Big Y World Class Market, New York Life, Yale New Haven Health System, Alexion, Center for Orthopaedics, ConnectiCare, Denali, Jet Blue Airways and Executive Honda.  To get involved in the event or for more information on the race visit www.cheshirehalfmarathon.org or call (203) 481-5933.
