The Sheridan Council #24 of the Knights of Columbus in Waterbury, CT hosted a Regional Competition of the CT State Council Spelling Bee on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Saints Peter and Paul School in Waterbury. There were three rounds of competition, one each for students in Grades 4, 5, and 6. The students who placed first in each round of this competition are eligible to compete in the state competition, which will be held on April 6, 2014 at the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven. The top three finishers in each grade level were:
4th Grade
1st Place – Anthony Penisse – St. Dominic, Southington
2nd Place – Jenna Siemiatkoski – St. Anthony, Bristol
3rd Place – Katie Sykes – St. Peter & St. Francis, Torrington
5th Grade
1st Place – Zii Donato – Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Waterbury
2nd Place – Jessica Carta – Blessed John Paul II, Middletown
3rd Place – Dominic Amara – St. Joseph, Bristol
6th Grade
1st Place – Michael Famiglietti – Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Waterbury
2nd Place – Brandon Sykes – St. Peter & St. Francis, Torrington
3rd Place – Aidan Gillen – Blessed John Paul II, Middletown
It is worth noting that the first place finishers in Grades 5 and 6 this year were the same students who finished first in Grades 4 and 5 in last year’s competition. Thank you to all the schools that participated and good luck to the winners in the state competition.
