Habitat for Humanity of Greater Waterbury has begun accepting applications for its next new build in Waterbury. Habitat for Humanity builds safe, decent houses for low income families who could not otherwise afford to buy a house. The Affiliate plans to build its next house in Waterbury this year. The home will be built in partnership with a family selected based on specific criteria.
Families are chosen based on their need for housing, ability to make payments on an affordable no-interest mortgage and their willingness to be active partners with Habitat in accomplishing our mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. One way that Habitat partner families demonstrate their willingness to partner is by completing a specific number of “sweat equity” hours prior to taking ownership of the house. “Sweat equity” includes workshops, meetings and participating in house construction.
Potential applicants must be residents of the affiliate area which includes: Beacon Falls, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Prospect, Southbury, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott and Woodbury. Interested parties are invited to visit our website at www.waterburyhabitat.org to review the selection criteria, print and complete an application. Or pick up an application at 83 Prospect Street in Waterbury. Applications should be mailed to P.O. Box 1881, Waterbury, CT 06722 by March 15, 2014
