New Opportunities is hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site for the 8th consecutive year at its Waterbury, Meriden and Torrington locations.

The VITA program, which is sponsored by the IRS, provides free tax preparation and e-filing of State and Federal 1040EZ and 1040-A forms for individuals and families with household incomes of $52,000 or less. Clients can also have their refunds electronically deposited into their bank accounts at no additional charge.

VITA clients also receive assistance with special tax credits including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or Disabled. VITA services are not available for homeowners or business owners with more complex returns.

In addition to free tax preparation services, New Opportunities will also have Access Health Certified In-Person Assisters on hand to provide information, answer questions and also assist consumers with applying for insurance through the Access Health Marketplace.
