Waterbury Police are investigating a murder that occurred late Friday night in the rear of the brick apartment building located at the corner of Chestnut Avenue and Johnson Street. Kareem Morey (age 38) (pictured here) of Waterbury was shot once in the upper chest and was driven by friends to St. Mary’s Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The investigation has determined that Morey’s two sons, ages 19 and 21, were involved in a dispute at that location earlier in the evening with a group of men. The two sons returned around 10:30 pm with their father and a second altercation occurred with the same group of men.

During the second altercation, a male suspect fired a single shot at Morey striking him in the upper chest. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet, but investigators have developed very strong leads in the case regarding the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 203-755-1234.
