Habitat for Humanity of Greater Waterbury (HFHGW) is busy planning their third annual Gala: “Hard Hats and High Heels: A Mardi Gras Celebration,” to be held on March 1, 2014 at Aria Banquet Facility in Prospect, CT. Please join us for a night of Mardi Gras celebrations as we continue our goal of “Building Dreams One House at a Time.” Proceeds from the Gala will be used for the upcoming home build in the Spring of 2014 on the west side of Waterbury.

At the benefit on March 1, guests will kick off the evening with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner and dancing. Guests attending the Gala can partake in a raffle where they will have the opportunity to win exciting prizes and further support HFHGW’s next home build.

The “Hard Hats and High Heels ” Gala is open to the public. Tickets are $55 per person/$100 per couple. For sponsorship details, tickets, or for additional information, please contact Sharon Miket at 203-596-0014 or waterburyhabitatgala@gmail.com

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Waterbury is an independent, locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing. Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates around the world have built and repaired more than 600,000 homes for qualified partner families. HFHGW is completely staffed by volunteers. Volunteers raise funds and provide most of the labor, with individuals, churches, community organizations and corporate donors providing the materials and financial support to build Habitat houses. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, and financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses. ? It is not a “hand-out,” but rather a “hand-up.” In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowner partner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor — sweat equity — into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. HFHGW has completed two major construction projects in Waterbury on Waterville and Raymond Streets. They plan on breaking ground on the newest build on the west side of Waterbury in early 2014.
