There have been many new chapters in the book of Blessed Sacrament School in the past two years.  The school is seeing a bit of a rebirth starting with Rev. Jeremiah Murasso taking the reigns as the new pastor of the church and school  Father Murasso quickly got to work repainting the school, adding new carpeting, and installing a brand new professional kitchen.  The children are now receiving delicious hot lunches every day at the school. The school also boasts three league championship winners this year in girls basketball and boys JV and varsity baseball as well as churning out students who go on to become valedictorians of local high school.

Father Murasso hired John Cook as the new principal of the school.  Mr. Cook comes with an impressive resume.  He spent 38 years l in the Wolcott Public Schools where he retired as principal in 2005.  After spending a year as a curriculum consultant, he went on to become the deputy school superintendent of the Bridgeport Diocese.

Also returning the school this year was the Blessed Sacrament Children’s Theatre.  Co-Producers Bob Tansley and Pat Hearn have returned to Blessed Sacrament after a two year hiatus. This year’s production included 110 Waterbury area children from grades PreKindergarten and up, who put on six shows of the musical Annie.  This is not your ordinary school play but what Pat Hearn refers to as “an adult level production with children”. After the final performance this year, Father Murasso took the microphone to announce that Blessed Sacrament Children’s Theatre was here to stay.  The news was met with thunderous applause.

The newest chapter will kick off this fall when the school hosts the first Annual Blessed Sacrament Carnival.  The carnival will run from Sept. 12 – 15 and will feature games of chance, carnival rides, and food. The carnival will also include the 2nd Annual Bobcat Boogie 5K and Kids Fun Run as well as a vendor fair.  The carnival committee is currently booking vendors for the vendor fair.  Tables are $25 a day or all four days for $75.  If you are interested in being a vendor, call Sarah Raposo at 203-753-3149.

All events will take place on the school grounds at 386 Robinwood Road, Waterbury.
