Kevin Isles, Hayley Iannantuoni, and Candace Smith of Sacred Heart High School were the recent recipients of the UNICO Club Scholarships awarded to seniors from local and private high schools in the greater Waterbury area. The UNICO Club offers four undergraduate scholarships annually valued at $6,000 over four years. These students were chosen from a large pool of city-wide high school senior applicants based on the following criteria: student must be of Italian decent and attend a high school in Waterbury, possess an academic average for four years with a GPA of at least 3.0 or B, submit recent class ranking and SAT or ACT test scores, and exhibit participation in extra-curricular or community involvement through activities or service projects.
All three of the recipients have been involved in leadership roles in athletics and extra-curricular clubs and activities at the Heart. Candace is the 2013 salutatorian and will attend Tufts University and major in Pre-Med/Biology. Kevin will attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in Finance. Hayley will attend Southern CT State University and major in Nursing. On behalf of the Sacred Heart High School family, we wish to congratulate these three outstanding seniors on being chosen as the 2013 UNICO recipients and wish them well in their college endeavors.
