Ms. Anna Guay has been named Valedictorian and Ms. Candace Smith, Salutatorian of the Class of 2013 at Sacred Heart High School, according to Mrs. Eileen Regan, President.

During Anna’s four years at Sacred Heart High School, she has taken a leadership role in a number of clubs and activities both in and outside of school.  She has served as Vice-President of the National Honor Society, Editor of the Literary Magazine, Reporter for the School Newspaper, the Forum, a Student Ambassador all four years, a three-year member of the Girls’ Basketball Team, and a two-year Co-Captain of both the Cross-Country and Track and Field teams. Anna excelled in both Cross Country as well as Track and Field achieving three year All-City, three year All-Copper, three year MVP, and was the Cross Country City Campion her senior year. She was also a two year All-City runner, 2012 800 meter NVL runner up, and the team Track and Field MVP.

In addition to the above, Anna has enjoyed spending time with the Special Olympics serving as a Basketball volunteer and Track and Field Coach. She was recently named a recipient of the following awards and scholarships: 2013 Superintendent’s Summa Scholar Award, the Curtiss Wright Son’s & Daughter’s Scholarship, the Peggy Zimmerman Scholarship, a Republican American Academic All-Star, and the 2013 CIAC Scholar-Athlete. She is also an inaugural member of the Sacred Heart High School “Super Seniors, class of 2013.”  The daughter of Pamela and Kenneth Guay of Watertown, CT she is a graduate of St. Mary Magdalen School.  Anna will attend Connecticut College in New London, CT in the fall and will pursue a career in Special Education or Environmental Science.

 

Candace has left her mark on the Heart’s school community where she is a National Merit Scholar Commended Student and an AP Scholar. She was the recipient of the 2013 Superintendent’s Summa Scholar Award and achieved a perfect 800 on both the Critical Reading and the Biology subject testing of the SAT’s. She is also the recipient of both the UNICO Club Scholarship and the Zimmitti Scholarship. During her time at Sacred Heart, she has served as the Treasurer of the National Honor Society, Senior Captain of the Girls’ Soccer Team, Literary Editor and Reporter for the School Newspaper, the Forum, and is a member of the International Club.  She was also the captain of the Premier Team, Northwest Rovers FC, of which she has been a member for five years. Candace has been an active member of the Art Club having willingly shared her gifts of time and talent many times within the school building. In the summer Candace works as a counselor at the YMCA, Camp Mohawk for Girls and enjoys mentoring young people.

Candace is the daughter of Bradford J. Smith and Linda M. Armstrong of Litchfield, CT and attended Litchfield Intermediate and Litchfield High. Passionate about her love of children; she will attend Tufts University in Medford, MA in the fall and intends to pursue a career as a pediatrician.
