Students from Crosby High School in Waterbury are finalizing their projects for the Connecticut Student Innovation Exposition, held by the Center for 21st Century Skills at EDUCATION CONNECTION. Over 2,000 students from 45 middle and high schools across the state will be participating in the Student Innovation Exposition, held on May 4 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

This year, students from Crosby High’s Research, Design Class are working on a mobile application entitled “Anything and Everything”. They are in the process of creating a search engine that will provide any user with a quick, simple and dependable answer instead of listing excessive links. The purpose of the app was to make search engines more efficient and simple, providing simplistic answers to any questions. The group, self penned “Beyond the Cube”, has created a business plan for the app and is currently fundraising for the presentation booth at the Expo. The Connecticut Student Innovation Expo is the culminating experience for students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Digital Arts programs. The students will be presenting their work to a distinguished panel of judges comprised of higher education faculty and industry experts at the Innovation Expo, hoping to take home awards in categories such as the Materials Science Challenge, the Human-Centered Design Challenge, and the prestigious Director’s Award. In addition to the special categories, first, second, and third place projects from each program will be awarded. These programs include the Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, Bio2, Chem21, 3D Modeling and Animation, Digital Media and Movie Making, E-Commerce Entrepreneurship, Foundations of Health Science and Technology, Physics21, Public Health, and Mobile App Design.

Several groups across the state have already submitted synopses of their projects for public viewing as part of the annual “Sneak Peek” in advance of the Innovation Expo.
