Edwin Soto

   National PAL announced its annual award winners for 2012 and Waterbury, Ct. PAL Volunteer Edwin Soto has been named the Volunteer Man of the Year Award Winner for his volunteer commitment and dedication to the Waterbury, CT. PAL.

   A volunteer member of the Waterbury, Ct. Police Athletic League, Edwin has provided coaching, leadership and guidance to numerous young people who utilize the programming at the Waterbury PAL.  Most of the PAL kids who interact with Edwin are actively involved in soccer, baseball & fishing.

   In addition, Edwin coordinates the distribution of groceries through the Mobile Food Pantry, plans the Bingo Fundraiser at the PAL recreation center and helps to organize an Earth Day Clean-up.  Edwin’s additional volunteer activities include helping to organize & participate in the Waterbury PAL’s Annual Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Thanksgiving parties.  He also volunteers his time as a guide and a chaperone to minor league baseball games, the local zoo and other recreational kid friendly locations. 

 

   “It is with a great deal of pleasure that we bestow this honor on Edwin Soto” said National PAL’s Executive Director, Michael Dillhyon.  “The volunteer spirit needed in order to dedicate so much of his free time to the Waterbury PAL is evident in his daily actions and is an inspiration to us all.  The effectiveness achieved by the PAL, through full-time staff working alongside volunteers like Edwin, affords opportunities to the young people of Waterbury, thus making that City a better community for all its residents to live, work and play.” 

   The National Association of Police Athletic/Activities Leagues, Inc. exists to prevent juvenile crime and violence by providing athletic, recreational and educational opportunities and resources to over 300 National PAL Chapters across the country.
