Rich Kalcznski, of Prospect, will be honored at the Special Olympics Connecticut Hall of Fame Dinner – Celebrating 45 Years of Memories on Wednesday, March 20th at the Aqua Turf Country Club, Plantsville. The annual Hall of Fame event honors extraordinary athletes, volunteers and supporters who demonstrate leadership, spirit and selflessness, inspire joy through sport and promote inclusion and respect for individuals of all abilities. Tickets, which must be reserved in advance, are $25.00 per person and may be obtained by calling 203-230-1201, ext. 276 or emailing kellib@soct.org. The event is hosted and made possible through the generosity of the Bozzuto and Calvanese families. Registration will begin at 5 p.m.; the program at 6 p.m.
Rich Kalcznski will receive the Unsung Hero Award which is given to volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes for Special Olympics Connecticut with no expectation of recognition or reward.
Kalcznski has been a volunteer leader of the Special Olympics Waterbury local team for 15 years. He has helped to establish a partnership with the Waterbury Police Activity League (PAL) that has helped to provide more athletes with year-round opportunities to play sports.
Kalcznski has also served as a Special Olympics track official and Venue Director at the 2012 Special Olympics Northwest Regional Games. He is known for devoting countless hours to volunteering, to ensure games run smoothly and athletes have the best possible experience throughout their training and competitions.
