Landmark Community Theatre (LCT) is entering into its second season of managing the Historic Thomaston Opera House. The 2013 season offers five main stage shows including comedies, musicals both old and new, a holiday classic and a very special surprise production during the summer.
The 2013 Season will start off with a comedy, RUMORS by Neil Simon, showing March 16, 22, 23 @ 8pm and March 17 & 24 @ 2pm. In Neil Simon’s first farce, several affluent couples gather in the posh suburban residence to celebrate their hosts’ tenth anniversary. However, they discover there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host – the deputy mayor of New York City – has been shot. Comic complications arise when, given everyone’s upper class status, they decide they need to do everything possible to conceal the evening’s events from the local police. Neil Simon’s RUMORS is sure to have you laughing till you cry.
The first musical of the season is a Broadway favorite, GUYS & DOLLS, showing April 27, May 3, 4, 10, 11 @ 8pm and April 28, May 5 & 12 @ 2pm. Guys & Dolls is a musical comedy with vivid characters such as Sarah Brown the upright but uptight “mission doll”, out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she’s been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game. Audiences will enjoy this toe-tapping showcase and sing a long with its familiar tunes!
Our summer production is a MUST SEE. The official announcement will be made in April but we can tell you it is the CT Community Theatre Premiere of “BROADWAY’S Most Beloved Musical”, showing August 3, 9, 10, 16, 17 @ 8pm and August 4, 11, 18 @ 2pm.
The third musical of the 2013 Season is a monstrously fun show, Mel Brook’s YOUNG FRAKENSTIEN, showing October 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 @ 8pm and October 6, 13, 20 @ 2pm. This Broadway musical Based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit 1974 film; YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks. The show’s raucous score includes “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and the unforgettable treatment of Irving Berlin’s “Putting On the Ritz.” A Tony award-winner in 2008, don’t miss it!
The final production of the 2013 Season is a Holiday favorite, MIRACLE ON 34th STREET, showing November 29, December 6,7,13,14 @ 8pm and November 30, December 1,8,15 @ 2pm. This poignant play tells the classic story of a white-bearded gentleman claiming to be the real Santa Claus and how he brings about a genuine MIRACLE on 34th street by spreading a wave of love throughout the city of New York. The resulting camaraderie between Macy’s and Gimbel’s Department Stores convinces a divorced, cynical single mother, her somber daughter and the entire state of New York that Santa Claus is no myth. Be sure to share this heart-warming story with your loved ones during the 2013 holiday season!
