While cruising down Bunker Hill Drive in Waterbury Saturday afternoon I was stunned at the extraordinary late afternoon light illuminating downtown Waterbury. The air was crisp, the colors vibrant, and the magic light of sunset bathed St. John’s Episcopal Church, and the Green. I cut left and right trying to find a vista away from utility wires and trees that blocked a clean view. I drove around for 15 minutes up on Grandview Avenue and came up empty. Disappointed, but excited at the hunt, I drove down off the hill and into Colonial Plaza. I turned around and this is what I saw. Sometimes we’re so busy chasing that we don’t realize that what we’re looking for is right behind us, or sitting next to us. Turn and embrace the beauty before the sun goes down.
