The Sisters to Sisters Book Club will discuss Gathering of Waters by Bernice L.
McFadden Monday, November 5, 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Silas Bronson Library.
The book is a moving novel about the real life 1955 murder of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old
African-American from Chicago who was brutally murdered after reportedly flirting with a 21-
year-old white woman while on a visit to relatives in Money, Mississippi. Several nights later,
the woman’s husband and his half-brother took Till from his great-uncle’s house, beat him,
gouged out one of his eyes, shot him through the head and disposed of his body in the
Tallahatchie River, where it was discovered three days later. McFadden traces the generations before and after that horrible night in this riveting novel.
The program is free. The public is invited.
