A business caring about a cause so deeply that they’d invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into promoting it is almost unheard of. This fall, Connecticut-based law firm, Carter Mario Injury Lawyers is making an investment in urging the public to “Stow Before You Go”— the firm’s new public service campaign aimed at publically addressing the dangers of distracted driving. The campaign, which will be featured on billboards on major highways, and on busses throughout Connecticut, is making motorists aware of the hazards of using their cell phones behind the wheel. The ads feature the prominent headline: “The Most Dangerous Thing on the Road” and impactful images of cell phones, morphed into such dangerous items as a scorpion, spider, gun, or a grenade.
“This new ad campaign is something that we are proud to be a part of,” said law firm President & CEO, Carter Mario. “By using your cell phone behind the wheel, you’re actually four times more likely to be involved in a serious accident (according to a recent study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.) Distracted driving has become an epidemic, yet we’re not doing enough to raise awareness of the real dangers. It’s my hope that this new campaign will send a message to the general public and to our legislators that more change still needs to happen when it comes to our cell phone laws. If these ads can save just one life, then all of our efforts will be worthwhile,” says Mario.
The statewide law firm, which is widely known for its “Get Carter!” slogan, has over the past three years committed its community outreach arm, CarterCares to promoting the real dangers of distracted driving. The firm launched their first effort in 2010 with a campaign aimed at making the issue of distracted driving public; as well as changing the focus of their annual “Arrive Alive” Scholarship Program for high school seniors to surround distracted driving issues.
Now, in 2012 the firm has increased their efforts to put an end to distracted driving in Connecticut, and launched the “Stow Before You Go” campaign. The campaign is also being supported online, via the website StowBeforeYouGo.com. Online, visitors will find interesting and hard-hitting facts and figures about the dangers of distracted driving, order “Stow Before You Go” t-shirts, as well as find out more about other ways in which the firm is doing everything they can to prevent distracted driving.
