A member of the musical group Sucari blew into wooden pipes last night as he performed songs from South America during a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Silas Bronson Library in downtown Waterbury.

Sucari performed more than a dozen songs from South America, Central America and the Carribbean using a wide variety of musical instruments – including a guitar fashioned from a hollowed out armadillo shell.

A Jewish family from the Overlook neighborhood stumbled upon the concert and stayed to enjoy the performance.

Victor Lopez, the president of the Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury addressed the gathering as Victor Cuevas, a candidiate for State Representative in the 75th District looked on.

The lead singer of Sucari, Lorena Garay, played her guitar with both flair and raw emotion.
