On Thursday, September 6 Sacred Heart High School celebrated 90 years of Excellence in Catholic Education with a special celebration at City Hall marking this milestone occasion. Mayor Neil O’Leary designated this day as “Sacred Heart Day” in the City of Waterbury.
The administration, faculty, staff & students processed to City Hall and participated in a 9:30 a.m. flag raising ceremony with proclamations being presented on behalf of the city, state, and U.S. Congress as well as remarks by Mayor Neil O’Leary, President, Mrs. Eileen Regan, Class of 1978, Principal, Mr. Anthony R. Azzara, Class of 1967, School Board Chairman, Giuseppe Pisani, Class of 1984, in addition to local city, state and congressional dignitaries.
Reverend James T. Gregory, chaplain of Sacred Heart High School gave the invocation, Raymond Snyder IV, Class of 2013 led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Ashley Mastropietro, Class of 2014 sang the National Anthem. Monsignor James G. Coleman, Class of 1954 gave the Benediction and School Board member, State Representative Mr. Selim Noujaim, served as Master of Ceremonies. The Sacred Heart High School 90th Anniversary Flag was flown over City Hall for the day and members of the Honorary Flag raising ceremony included Faculty member, Mrs. Joanne Benedict, Mr. Jack O’Connor, Class of 1954, Vanessa Riddick, Class of 2016, and George Gomes, Class of 2013.

On Wednesday, September 5, 2012 Dr. Dale R. Hoyt, Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Hartford Diocese, joined the Sacred Heart High School Community for a Back to School Mass and kick-off to our 90th Anniversary at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. These events were only the beginning of the many yearlong celebrations planned in honor of Sacred Heart’s 90th Anniversary year.
