Alex Cuevas, Community Outreach Coordinator at Stone Academy, recently spoke at a higher education forum hosted by Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury at the Silas Bronson Library on Grand Street.
During his presentation, Cuevas shared a brief history of Stone Academy and explained the school’s proven long-term track record of training and placing local residents in careers in the hottest fields. The school’s current programs focus on healthcare, because the field is growing and forecasted to grow in Connecticut for many years. Cuevas also described specific programs and student services available.
Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury was founded in 1974. It serves Waterbury and the adjacent communities of Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oakville, Oxford, Plymouth, Prospect, Southbury, Thomaston, Watertown, Wolcott and Woodbury. Free programs include Basic Literacy, English as a Second Language, and Family Literacy.
