Several Industrial Management & Training Institute (IMTI) PV Apprentice Technicians were photographed when they began installing the Support Super Structure that will hold a fully-functional 5KW PV system at the IMTI school in Waterbury. On Friday, July 20, all of IMTI solar PV students will graduate having recently completed all of the classroom hours necessary for them to earn their individual CT PV2 license. The soon-to-graduate students were photographed completing the hands-on portion of the training program. Installation of the PV modules will follow after the completion of the building of the support structure. All students were instructed in personal fall protection as well as installation and design. Photographed on IMTI’s Waterbury rooftop (l to r) were Hector Ortiz, Dave Cruz, Gonzalo Ortiz and Anthony Fonseca.
IMTI-Industrial Management & Training Institute (www.IMTI.EDU) located at 233 Mill Street in Waterbury will graduate its first class of certified solar PV electrical/solar installers on Friday, July 20. In celebration of the graduates’ accomplishments in completing IMTI’s very first training course in solar photovoltaic (PV) design and installation, IMTI will welcome employment recruiters during an open house event between 2:30 and 3:30 PM. The open house will follow presentation of certifications to the 13 graduates hailing from Ansonia, Oakville, Waterbury, Prospect, Naugatuck, Hartford, New Milford and Cheshire, Connecticut. The graduates all received funding for training through the State Energy Sector Partnership made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which provides tuition assistance and training opportunities for Connecticut jobseekers and businesses. IMTI CEO Marcel Veronneau explained that, “Individuals seeking employment in careers in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other industries with a ‘green’ focus are potentially eligible, for tuition assistance through this Act.”
IMTI’s Veronneau stated, “Our newly-certified solar PV electrical/solar installation graduates all possess OSHA 10 Certification; knowledge of a curriculum approved by the Department of Labor (DOL) and the CT Department of Education; all electrical and classroom instruction needed for PV-2 apprentice employment positions; 145 hours of solar photovoltaic systems education; plus they will have taken the NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Entry Level PV Certification Exam.”
On July 20th, IMTI and the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board will co-host the solar PV apprenticeship electrical/solar installation training program’s open house event to discuss the program with prospective employers and introduce the IMTI graduates as prospective employees. “We are the only technical school in Connecticut,” explained Veronneau, “approved to help students obtain Incumbent Worker Funding for our solar and PV technical training programs that we initiated in September 2011. Our programs allow more technicians to obtain new jobs with their certified ‘cutting-edge’ skills in solar industries. By bringing employers directly to our graduates, we are helping fill new job opportunities for working technicians as well as U.S. Veterans.”
IMTI’s day and evening solar PV training classes will begin again September 24, 2012,and IMT is currently accepting applications for enrollment. In July 2011, IMTI introduced their 40-hour Introduction to Photovoltaic Design and Installation course as a NABCEP-approved program for certified solar PV (electrical) installers. During the July 20th open house event, graduates of that program will be introduced to employers from across Connecticut who are seeking the graduates’ newly-certified, ‘cutting – edge’ skills.
Located at 233 Mill Street in Waterbury, the IMTI technical school was founded by Marcel Veronneau in Waterbury in 1986. IMTI, and its branch technical school in Long Island City, New York, has been successfully training electricians, plumbers, electronic systems and HVAC technicians in current technologies andjob skills. All IMTI programs are career-oriented with classroom curriculums that include education as well as hands-on industry skills training. IMTI is approved by The State of Connecticut, The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), and Licensed by the State of New York, and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.
The July 20th open house will include tours of IMTI’s Solar Training Facility and the school’s new PV Training Installation Lab. The event will feature tours of the 3,000 square foot IMTI classroom and hands-on training facility which includes the fully-functioning stand-alone 2K PV system with inverter and battery back-up that provides lighting to the outdoor PV installation training area. Visitors will also be invited to tour the school’s interior and exterior training units and to view the solar paneling installed on IMTI’s rooftop that lights the entire 3,000 squarefoot Solar Training Lab year-round.
IMTI is open seven days each week and offers day, evening and weekend in-classroom courses, including Continuing Education courses for licensed plumbers and electricians.
