PUTTING UP THE HARVEST

Saving your garden harvest to eat later in the year is a thrifty and really satisfying thing to do. Save money and enjoy good quality food while eating your homegrown vegetables and fruit all year long using simple techniques that anyone can do in a home kitchen. We are still eating last year’s produce NOW!

EDIBLE WILD PLANTS
Wednesday, August 1, 6-8 pm. Fee $20.00

We will learn about finding and using common, easily identifiable native plants and weeds that are nutritious and FREE. Samples of dishes made with these plants will be offered.

EDIBLE FOREST GARDENS AND PERENNIAL EDIBLES
Saturday, August 4, 1-4pm Fee $25.00

Design and grow a garden that mimics nature and produces year after year with minimal new planting. Learn how to combine perennial edible plants using ecological design that draws from the science of ecology and practical observations of the forests around us.

We will be looking at native, mature woodlands, our EFG which is in its third summer and under development, and slides from more mature EFG’s to explain this concept.

BUILDING AND USING COLD FRAMES
Saturday, September 8, 1-4 pm. Fee $25.00

Extend your growing season or even grow all winter in a protected cold frame. With a sloping glass or plastic panel, facing south, cold frames are like greenhouses. Do as we do and harvest your greens all winter with no additional heat source other than the sun.
