The Mattatuck Museum presents the third and final lecture in their Spring Lunch & Learn Series, A Tour of Venice with Nunzio DeFilippis, on Wednesday, June 13 from 11:30am-12:30pm.
Nunzio DeFilippis will take us on a power point tour through Venice’s winding streets, canals, the picturesque bridges and intriguing byways as he give us new insights into the cultural history of one of his favorite cities. Mr. DeFilippis, a retired businessman, is noted for his lectures on opera history, Italian opera and Mozart’s operatic works. This series of lunchtime lectures runs in conjunction with the Reflections & Undercurrents: Ernest Roth and Printmaking in Venice, 1900-1940 exhibition in the museum’s Whittemore Gallery. This exhibition is organized by Eric Denker, Ph.D., senior lecturer at the Smithsonian’s National Gallery and includes ninety-five works: etchings, preliminary drawings, etching plates, sketchbooks, and photographs. Reflections and Undercurrents focuses on the art of Ernest David Roth (1879-1964). Roth was one of the most significant etchers of the first half of the twentieth century. This exhibition places the art and artist in the broader context of American and European etchers of the period.
