Join the Mattatuck Museum for From Dublin Street to City Hall: A History of the Waterbury Irish on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 6:00-7:30pm.
Phil Benevento, historian for the City of Waterbury, will present a history of the early nineteenth century Irish community in Waterbury. His talk will focus on the struggles of this emerging community to put down roots, overcome the prejudices of the time, establish and maintain their religion, and eventually, emerge as a powerful and influential force in the life of the Brass City. The talk will be illustrated with slides showing rare views associated with the Irish community in the 1800’s. Waterbury’s most prominent Irishman, our city mayor, the Honorable Neil O’Leary, will be on hand to introduce the program.
