Two of Post University’s instructors were included in the Final 10 Nominees for BestCollegesOnline.com’s 2012 Professor of the Year Award. Through this award, BestCollegesOnline.com seeks to recognize forward-thinking distance education professors who are mastering new technologies to effectively support students in their courses.

The two Post University finalists are Rose Handon, Ph.D., an adjunct Master of Human Services professor, and Sherrilyn Bernier, Ed.D., an adjunct Bachelor of Science in Human Services professor.   Both instructors teach in the University’s John P. Burke School of Public Service.

“We’re proud and delighted that two of our instructors made it into the top 10 list of nominees for this honor,” said Frank Mulgrew, President of the Online Education Institute (OEI) of Post University. “Their approach to education personifies the University’s student-focused, career-driven mission, and their nominations are a testament to their devotion to their students’ success.”

Rose Handon has 25 years of experience as a field instructor, 31 years of experience in governmental public service, and has a self-described drive for continuing her own professional development. Her students have described her as tough but fair. As a professor, Handon’s goal is to “provide students with an exemplary education, as they prepare to meet the demands of society, their communities, their employers, their families, and themselves.”

Sherrilyn Bernier has been a professor for 10 years, and has been teaching online at Post University since 2010. Students describe her as an educator who upholds the highest standards, expects professionalism, and takes the time to provide thoughtful feedback. She strongly believes that feedback is a vital tool in the virtual classroom as it is the key to future improvement and growth.

Voting is open to everyone, is limited to one submission per person, and will continue until April 25. The Professor of the Year will be announced on May 1.

Post University began offering accelerated degree programs on the Internet in 1996, and was the first college in Connecticut and New England to offer accredited accelerated degree programs fully online. The University is now the largest provider of completely online education in Connecticut.
