But thanks to the vision of city industrialists more than 100 years ago, Waterbury owns several massive reservoirs in Litchfield County that are connected by underground tunnels. More than 3000 pristine acres of rolling hills in Warren is owned by the city of Waterbury as part of its massive water system.

The Cairns Reservoir is spring fed and the source of all the drinking water in Waterbury.
