The Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan Foundation has awarded funds to StayWell Health Care, Inc. to support the Smile Builders Program. Since 2010, StayWell has been providing prophys (cleanings) and sealants in at the Naugatuck Head Start and public schools. Uninsured students have been provided services free of charge throughout these past two years. The generous award of $500 will be used to support the supplies and staffing needed to continue to provide these services.

According to Priscilla Clark, nursing supervisor for the Naugatuck School System, she “was pleasantly surprised when all of the nurses were very satisfied with the dental cleanings, sealants, and dental education that were provided by the Smile Builders Program. Many of these students hadn’t seen a dentist or hygienist in years.” The goal of the program is to increase access to services and overcome the barriers that often prevent of delay children getting the preventive dental care they need.

Clark noted that she was “pleased that our students have access to such good care.” (Her) “only wish is to have a greater number of students taking advantage of this program.”

The Spring session will be offered between April 12th and May 14th. It’s not too late for students to enroll in the program. Please call Dana Robinson-Rush, Program Manager at 203-756-8021 ext. 3055 for an enrollment form or to ask for further information.
