Road races and family-friendly activities will highlight the inaugural Children’s Community School 5K on May 12th at Waterbury’s Library Park. The event features a 5K Run, 1 Mile Family Walk and a Kids Fun Run. The run and walk pass scenic city parks and the Palace Theater. Proceeds from the event benefit Waterbury’s Children’s Community School.
Children’s Community School (CCS) is a private, secular nonprofit that provides a year-round, complete education to Waterbury’s inner-city children, grades pre-K through 5. The school has been serving disadvantaged children since 1969 so that they may have the opportunity to create successful lives for themselves. Annie Scott, board president, explains, “It is important that the children attending CCS be given every possible chance to gain the self-confidence and skills they need to be successful in life. Our support is really important.” Annual tuition is only $350; 95% of the school’s budget must be raised through public support and corporate, foundation, and individual donations.
Race participants are encouraged to donate or fundraise for Children’s Community School and make a difference in the life of a child. Entry fees are $20 (5K), $15 (walk), and $8 (kids run) before April 1st. Entrants who raise $100 or more receive a complimentary entry into the event. Following the races, participants can enjoy family-friendly activities, food, beverages and live music.
JB Sports LLC, coordinator of the award winning New Haven Road Race, Branford Road Race and Fairfield Half Marathon, organizes the race. For more information and to register, please visit www.jbsports.com or call (203) 481-5933.
