The Washington Garden Club is putting a new twist on the traditional Garden Tour by returning to “working” gardens this July 21, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Club, founded in 1914, is sponsoring this event to raise money for community projects and to offer people the opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture and home vegetable gardening.
Pick of the Crop will focus on six very different gardens including a grandchild’s garden, another with a large greenhouse, a property above Lake Waramaug with gardens and livestock, an organic vegetable and herb garden. There will be a knowledgeable gardener at each location to answer questions and chefs offering samplings of farm-fresh foods at several stops on the tour.
The event begins with a Cocktail Party on Friday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., with a garden-related raffle and a diverse and wonderful boutique with items for your garden, yourself, your family and home. On the day of the Garden Tour, the Town Hall remains open for boxed lunches, the Boutique, vendors and the raffle drawing. In addition, chefs from The Community Table, The Mayflower Inn, New Morning Store, and cookbook author Ann Hodgman will author samplings of foods and hors d’oeuvres made from farm-fresh ingredients.
Tickets for the Cocktail Party are $50, and for the Garden Tour, $50 for adults, children under 12, free, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Box lunches will be $20. For more information, please contact Susan Magee at 203-266-7958 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
