State Senator Ed Meyer (D-12) and State Representative Dick Roy (D-119), co-chairs of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Environment Committee, announced that they are both endorsing former State Representative Elizabeth Esty in the race to represent Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District.

“I know firsthand Elizabeth’s dedication to championing policies that are good both for our environment and our economy,” Senator Meyer said. “She distinguished herself among her colleagues as a leader on energy and environmental issues in the General Assembly. In Congress, Elizabeth will fight for a national energy policy that keeps our air clean, lowers costs, and creates jobs here in Connecticut.”

“We need a strong Democratic candidate who can win the 5th District, go to Washington, and stand up to attempts to dismantle the EPA,” Representative Roy said. “Having fought with Elizabeth on numerous environmental issues, including keeping toxic chemicals out of children’s food, I know that she will always stand up for the health of Connecticut families against the power of special interests.”

“I’m so proud to be endorsed by my good friends Dick Roy and Ed Meyer,” Esty said. “Whether it’s been combating climate change, keeping toxic chemicals out of children’s food, or lowering energy costs and creating green-energy jobs, Dick Roy and Ed Meyer are two of this state’s greatest environmental leaders. I also want to commend Representative Roy as he closes a particularly distinguished career in the State House. I look forward to working with both of them on this campaign to build a sustainable energy future that protects our state’s water, land, and air.”

During her term in the Connecticut State House, Esty served on the Energy & Technology Committee and was a recognized leader in finding sustainable solutions, receiving a 100% rating from the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters for her voting record. As part of this focus, she supported incentives for partnerships between communities and private industry to invest in alternative energy solutions for public buildings, lower energy costs, and create new jobs.

Senator Meyer and Representative Roy join more than twenty other environmental leaders in endorsing Elizabeth Esty for Congress, along with the Cheshire Democratic Town Committee, the Goshen Democratic Town Committee, EMILY’s List, the National Women’s Political Caucus, Women’s Action for New Directions, and the Women’s Campaign Fund.
