Naugatuck Valley Community College’s literary magazine, Fresh Ink, is inviting writers and graphic/photo artists to submit their work for consideration in this year’s publication. Entry is free and open to the public and will be accepted in three categories: poetry, prose and graphic. All entries must be received at email@example.com by 5 p.m. on March 1.
Given the great success of opening the submissions to the public last year, the magazine is looking to expand its readership and authorship even further this year. The magazine published the works of writers from Vermont to California last year and is working to establish its name and its reputation for quality to an even broader population.
The magazine is requesting previously unpublished pieces in three categories: poetry, prose, and graphic. Entrants may include a maximum of five submissions with no more than three in any given category. Prose pieces should include a maximum total word count of 1000 words and may include short stories, excerpts of larger works, essays, scenes or monologues, fiction or nonfiction. Graphic art submissions may include photographs, drawings or graphic pieces in any medium, color or black and white. The pieces will be evaluated with consideration for their reproduction quality as they will be printed from electronic media.
Published authors will be notified in April by email and paid in copies. One copy will be sent to each author, though more (up to 5) are available on request. Any author who submits work may also receive a free copy upon request.
All graphic submission will be considered for our cover competition. Current NVCC students are eligible for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in each of the three categories that include cash value prizes.
The format for submissions must be as follows: Entries should be emailed to Greg Harding firstname.lastname@example.org. The email should include full name, address, phone number and email. Each submission must be a separate file attachment. The attachments should not contain any information about the author and file names should match titles. Written entries must be sent in Word or Rich Text Format. Graphic images must be sent in JPG format.
