Waterbury Police Chief Michael Gugliotti
The Waterbury Police Department announced that it issued 285 infractions during the recent Click It Or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, the majority for driver’s and front seat passengers failing to wear their seat belts. The Waterbury Police Department joined forces with NHTSA and other state & local law enforcement agencies in support of this most recent Click It Or Ticket mobilization, which featured high visibility and aggressive enforcement of CT seat safety belt laws.
Waterbury Police Chief Michael Gugliotti stated that when worn correctly, seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by at least 50%. Yet nationally in 2009, 53% of fatally injured vehicle occupants were not wearing seat belts at the time of the fatal crash. “The Waterbury Police Department is hopeful that the Click It Or Ticket campaigns serve as a reminder to buckle up,” Gugliotti said. “Seat belts save lives.”
