Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ MAMMA MIA!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, returns to the Palace Theater in Waterbury for five performances, January 20-22. Tickets range in price from $50-$70 and are available online at www.palacetheaterct.org, by phone at 203-346-2000, or in person at the box office, 100 East Main Street in Waterbury.     The Box Office is encouraging women’s groups of all sizes to choose MAMMA MIA! as their next “Girls Night Out” destination by offering groups of 15 or more a 10-15 percent discount on tickets to the show. Bridal parties, co-workers, social club leaders, and soccer moms looking to book their next group outing can contact Box Office and Special Services Coordinator, Deirdre Patterson at 203-345-2011, to plan their excursion and save on tickets.

Inspired by the storytelling magic of ABBA’s songs from “Dancing Queen” and “S.O.S.” to “Money, Money, Money” and “Take a Chance on Me,” MAMMA MIA! is a celebration of mothers and daughters, old friends and new family found.

Donna, an independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, is about to let go of Sophie, the spirited daughter she’s raised alone. For Sophie’s wedding, Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends from her one-time band, Donna and the Dynamos, but Sophie has secretly invited three guests of her own. On a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle, Sophie brings back three men from Donna’s past to the Mediterranean paradise they visited 20 years earlier. Over 24 chaotic, magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities.

Seen by over 50 million people around the world, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ global smash hit musical MAMMA MIA! is celebrating over 4,000 performances in its tenth successful year at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre and remains among Broadway’s top  selling musicals. The current North American Tour has played over 3,700 performances in over 150 cities with 145 repeat visits.

The Palace Theater’s presentation of MAMMA MIA! is also sponsored in part by Waterbury Hospital’s TGIF (Thank God I’m Female) Women’s Wellness Forum, an annual social and informational event that will take place May 4, 2011 . As a result of this partnership, a portion of tickets sold to the Friday evening performance on January 20, will be donated back to Waterbury Hospital to support advance patient care.
