The Mattatuck Museum will be honoring Mr. William J. Pape II with the Brass Button Award on Friday September 23rd, 2011. The award ceremony, sponsored by Webster Bank, will be held at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT from 6:00-8:00pm and will include a cocktail reception, remarks by the museum and close friends of Mr. Pape and the presentation of the award. The Brass Button Award recognizes the outstanding contributions by an individual from the greater Waterbury area to the cultural and social enrichment of their community.
William J. Pape II has led the Republican-American newspaper as publisher since 1972. He has been a stalwart supporter of Waterbury and actively engaged in the city’s civic and cultural life for more than fifty years. He has generously supported the Waterbury Foundation, the Campership Fund, the United Way, the Community Vision for Waterbury project, and the Mattatuck Museum.
Mr. Pape is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and received an MBA from the Harvard School of Business Administration. He has been an active in the civic affairs of the city serving on the boards of the Greater Waterbury YMCA, Post University, and the Greater Waterbury Health Network, among others. He has been recognized by 14 local organizations for his leadership and commitment to supporting recreational and educational opportunities for youngsters in the city. His distinguished career in publishing began more than 50 years ago and he continues to lead the Republican-American through an era of new technology and competition.
The Mattatuck Museum is proud to honor William J. Pape II and grateful for his acceptance of the Brass Button Award. The Brass Button Award is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions in the greater Waterbury area to the cultural and social enrichment of his community. Like the Brass Button, this individual is resilient, one who never stops shining; although the fabric around them may wear away, they prevail, making the community a better place by their consistent commitment.
