The Mattatuck Museum will be holding its annual Orton P. Camp, Jr. lecture on Sunday, September 18th from 1:00-4:00pm. The lecture honors Orton P. Camp, Jr. whose encouragement and leadership guided the Mattatuck Museum for over four decades and whose legacy continues to inspire its work. This year the lecture will feature a Tour of Riverside Cemetery with Philip Benevento, co-sponsored by the Riverside Cemetery Association.
Waterbury’s Riverside Cemetery is a lovely landscape of rolling hills and stately trees surrounding a spring-fed pond which reflects the graceful and majestic monuments of this classic 19th century burial site which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Join us as city historian Philip Benevento recalls the lives and legacies of those who are memorialized here. The group will meet at the Mattatuck Museum and take a bus to the cemetery with some relevant stops along the way. Participants should be prepared to walk through the cemetery.
Admission to this program is free and all are invited to attend. Join the museum to immediately qualify for member benefits. The rain date for this event is Sunday, October 2nd. Please register in advance at www.MattatuckMuseum.org or by calling (203) 753-0381 ext. 10.
