Girls Inc. of Southwestern Connecticut will be cooking up some family fun at their Third Annual Open House & Barbecue on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at 35 Park Place, Waterbury (behind the Mattatuck Museum.) Greater Waterbury families with school-age daughters are especially encouraged to attend, as girls ages 6 to 18 will be able to sample activities offered at Girls Inc. of SWCT, including dance, karate, gymnastics, STEM robotics, cooking, teen leadership and additional Girls Inc. identity programs that inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold.
Enjoy delicious barbecue treats hot off the grill, and Catherine’s Famous Rice & Beans – rumored to be the best in town! Cool off with a frosty beverage, enter to win raffle prizes, let your little ones jump ‘n jive in the bounce house, enjoy fun activities, and tour GISWCT’s building, part of which is the historic Victorian house where the very first Girls Club in America was founded in 1864 through the generosity of Waterbury businessman, Elisha Leavenworth.
Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling (203) 756-4639. Adults (16+) are $5.00, children (15 and younger) are $3.00, and Girls Inc. of SWCT members are free. The Open House & Barbecue will take place rain or shine.
