Waterbury, Conn. – Some of the area’s most well-known colleges and universities are teaming up for the City of Danbury Education Fair, which will take place on Thursday, August 4, from 11 am to 2 pm. The event will be held at 235 Main Street in the lobby of the law offices of Ventura, Ribeiro & Smith. Parking is available in the City Parking Garage next to the Ice Arena. Visitors are asked to please park in this garage and not in the parking lot for the building.
College representatives will be on hand to share information regarding a wide array of undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as degree and certificate programs. This diverse group of colleges offers a variety of courses and programs which can help adult students advance their careers.
Connecticut’s public colleges serve both adult and traditional students alike and strive to offer high quality education at an affordable price, while several of the state’s private colleges have developed innovative programs specially tailored to meet the needs of adult students. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, individuals with a bachelor’s degree make almost a million dollars more over their lifetime than those with only a high school diploma, and those with a master’s degree earn approximately $1.5 million more.
The University of Connecticut (UConn) Stamford Campus, Western Connecticut State University (WestConn), and the Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) Danbury Center together represent the three public colleges participating in this event.
Located in downtown Stamford, UConn offers four-year undergraduate degrees in ten majors. At the graduate level, the campus offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA), and the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) degrees.
For individuals seeking higher education right in the heart of Danbury, the city’s two public colleges – WestConn and NVCC – are conveniently located. Naugatuck Valley Community College, which has its main campus in Waterbury, offers both credit and non-credit courses at its Danbury Center. NVCC students can earn credits which may be applied toward a two-year associate degree or transferred to a four-year college. WestConn has two campuses in Danbury: a 34-acre main campus in downtown Danbury called Midtown, and a 364-acre campus, about three miles from the main campus, called Westside.
Four of the state’s private universities – Post University, Sacred Heart University, University of Bridgeport, and University of New Haven – will also be represented at the event. Post University, located in Waterbury, offers a traditional four-year college experience, as well as accelerated degree programs through the Online Education Institute of Post University. Ideally suited to busy working adults who want convenience and flexibility without sacrificing quality, Post University’s accelerated undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs can be completed entirely online or during evenings and weekends at four locations in the state.
University College at Sacred Heart University is the dynamic link to the region’s adult and corporate communities. It provides the University’s resources and programs through regional campus locations in Fairfield and Stamford.
The Innovative Degree Excellence in Accelerated Learning (IDEAL) Program at the University of Bridgeport gives working adults, age 23 or older, the opportunity to complete an associate or bachelor’s degree at a time and place convenient for them. Students may choose from evening, weekend, and online accelerated courses.
Similarly, at the University of New Haven’s Center for Adult & Professional Studies (CAPS), the focus is solely on serving the needs of adult students age 21 or older.
