Spend a little time sampling the tasty barbeque that the Waterbury Firefighters Union will be serving up at the 2nd Annual Waterbury Firefighters Unions Summertime Brews Beer Festival, and you are sure to be impressed by their grilling prowess and award winning chili.

  The event is on Saturday, July 30th from 4-7:30PM, at the old Waterville Firehouse 1551 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury. The firemens’ talents, along with 40 different beers, both domestic and international, will be showcased at the Beer Tasting Festival to benefit Waterbury Youth Service System, Inc. (WYSS).  WYSS serves over 3,000 young people annually offering programs to disadvantaged youth that educate, enrich, and inspire.

   Twenty breweries and brew pubs offering 40 different beers with international beers from Ireland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Lithuania, as well as domestic beer from local U.S. Army Veteran  Mike McCreary of Oxford, Connecticut and his Cavalry Brewing beers created in honor of those who serve our country will be “on tap”.

   Other participants include Thomas Hooker, Blue Point, John Harvard’s Brewhouse, Cottrell, New England Brewing, Otter Creek, Saranac, Trout River, Harpoon, Kona, and much more.  Featured among the barbeque offerings are hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and a special Firefighter’s Chili recipe.  An air conditioned dining area will be set up in the fully restored main floor of the firehouse.

   Members of the Connecticut Firefighters’ Pipes and Drums Corp will be on hand to offer some rousing bagpipe music and fanfare to the fest.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Waterbury Youth Service System, Inc. and the Waterville Firehouse Restoration Fund.  Tickets are $25 for adults 21 and over in advance ($20 each for groups of 5 or more) and $30 at door.  Ticket price includes everything except the BBQ food which will once again be offered at a nominal price.  Tickets are available at www.waterburyyouthservices.org, Nutmeg Fine Wines and Spirits 1650 Watertown Ave., Waterbury, CT 203-757-8332, waterburyfire.org, or at Etix.com search word: Waterbury Firefighters.
