It’s time to unload all the poison, paint, batteries and insecticides laying around your house, but in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

   Hazardous waste collection for residents of Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Middlebury, Nau­gatuck, Oxford, Southbury, Thomaston, Water­bury, Watertown and Woodbury will be at Kennedy High School on July 15th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

   Kennedy High School is in the Town Plot neighborhood of Waterbury, at 422 Highland Ave.??Items that will be accepted are mercury and mercury thermometers, drain and oven cleaners, uphol­stery cleaners, poisons, insecticides, oil- or lead­based paints, wood cleaners, aerosols, strippers and varnishes, metal polishers, pool and photo chemicals, automotive cleaners and fluids, grease and rust solvents, alkaline batteries and fluores­cent bulbs.

   Items that will not be accepted include latex paint, auto batteries, motor oil, radioactive or medical waste, asbestos, explosives and com­pressed gas cylinders. Commercial and industrial waste will only be accepted through prior arrangement.
