• Samia Billups of Waterbury, was awarded the 2nd Annual Patricia H. Mayfield Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for four years. Ms Billups, a graduate of Kaynor Technical High School will attend Spelman College.

   • Gabrielle Mouzon, of Waterbury, has been named first place winner of the Art Contest.  Ms. Mouzon, a 2011 graduate of Chase Collegiate, has been awarded a scholarship of $1,000 for four years.  She will attend the University of New Haven.  Ms. Mouzon was also awarded second place in the Essay Contest and will receive an additional $750 award for one year.

   • Brandon DaCosta and Cassandra Mitchell of Waterbury, have been chosen the first place winners of the Poetry Contest  and Alyssa Osorio has been chosen the first place winner of the Essay Contest.  Each student will receive a scholarship of $1,000 for four years  Mr. DaCosta, a graduate of St. Thomas More Academy will attend Western CT State University.  Both graduates of Sacred Heart High School, Ms Mitchell will attend the Marist College and Ms. Osorio will attend the University of Southern Florida.

   In addition to these four-year scholarship awards, one-year scholarships will be given to the following students:

   • Desiree Fontaine of Wolcott, second place winner in the Art Contest and Jessica Aronin of Naugatuck, second place winner in the Essay Contest will receive $750 scholarships.  A graduate of Waterbury Arts Magnet School, Ms. Fontaine will attend Western CT State University.  Ms. Aronin, a graduate of Sacred Heart High School will attend California State University at Fullerton.

   • Elena Ramos of Waterbury was awarded third place in the Essay Contest and will receive a $500 award. Ms. Ramos, a graduate of Kennedy High School will attend Pace University.

     Additional cash prizes were awarded for students in grades 6 – 11. Formal presentation of the awards will take place at the 26th Annual Scholarship Reception on Thursday, July 21st.
